Using Final Eyes
What files can I check?
PDFs up to 30 pages, Word documents (.docx), plain text and Markdown files, and up to 4 images at a time (JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF, 20 MB each). You can also paste text. Up to 60,000 characters at a time. Old Word files (.doc) need saving as .docx first.
For a PowerPoint or Keynote presentation, save it as a PDF (File > Export > PDF) and drop that in. You’ll see every slide, with each suggestion marked on it.
What does it check?
Spelling, grammar, punctuation and capitals, and, if you want them, clarity and style suggestions. You choose British English, American English, or to match the spelling style of your text.
It also checks your file is consistent: the same word spelt two ways (colour and color, email and e-mail), a word typed twice, and a hyphen used as a dash where the rest of the file uses dashes. These are marked “Consistency check”.
It checks the details too, the ones that cost a reprint: a weekday that doesn’t match its date ("Monday 14 October" when the 14th is a Wednesday), a date that can’t exist, opening times in the middle of the night ("4.30am–6.30am") or that end before they start, a UK phone number a digit short, a web address that won’t work ("wwww." or "example, com"), a price written "£12.5", and the same item at two prices. Where there’s no sure fix, it’s marked Check and nothing in your text changes; choose Flag it to add it to the amends.
It also finds text that was never meant to be printed, marked Leftover: replies pasted from an AI tool ("Certainly! Here’s a revised version"), template instructions ("Include 3-4 bullet points here"), notes to the team ("Note to Jen:", "TODO"), and placeholders such as "[Client name]", "£XX", "TBC" or lorem ipsum. These are checked on your device. Each is marked Check, so nothing changes unless you act on it.
QR codes and barcodes in artwork and PDFs (the first 10 pages) are read on your device, in any browser. Final Eyes tells you where each QR code goes, and points out one that goes to a different site or a different page from the address printed, or a barcode that doesn’t match the number under it. It doesn’t open the link, so it can’t tell whether the page works. Scan codes with your phone too.
Clarity and style suggestions are optional. Turn them off in Options if you only want mistakes.
Can it follow our house style?
Yes. Owners and admins can add the names, terms and spellings your team always writes one way under House style at the top right (for example, write “Wi-Fi”, not “wifi”). After every check, anything written differently is marked “Your house style”. The list is saved with your team; your files never are.
Can we keep a house style for each client?
Yes. On House style, choose + Add a client, name it, add its rules, and choose British or American spelling if the client has one. Once you have a client, the checker shows House style above the buttons: choose the client before you check, and Final Eyes follows their rules and spelling instead of yours. The results and the amends name the client, and the checker remembers your choice. Up to 50 clients, on every plan.
Can it set up a house style from a client’s brand guidelines?
Yes. On a house style, choose Import from brand guidelines and pick the guide (PDF, Word or text). Final Eyes reads its text on your device, Claude reads it once, and you get a list of suggested rules, such as "write Wi-Fi, not wifi", with the page each came from, plus the spelling and tone of voice the guide asks for. Tick the ones to keep, check them against the guide, then Save. The guide itself isn’t kept. Tone of voice is saved as a note for your reference; Final Eyes doesn’t check tone yet.
Can it check a client’s brand colours?
Yes, in PDFs and artwork. On a house style, add the brand colours under Brand colours (a name, and the hex value or CMYK; Pantone is kept for reference), or import them from the brand guidelines with the rules. After each check against that style, Final Eyes finds the flat colours in the file (logos, panels, type in colour) and compares them with the palette. Each is On brand, a Tint of a brand colour, Close to one but not the same, or Not in the palette. The last two are outlined on the page and go into the amends as "To check"; choose It’s right to leave one out. White, black and greys aren’t checked, and photos are left out.
This runs on your device, without Claude, and uses no extra checks. It reads the colours as they show on screen, so it can’t tell a CMYK build or a Pantone ink apart: check printed colour on a proof.
Can I check several files at once?
Yes. Drop or choose up to 10 files together. Each opens in a tab of its own, and they’re checked in the background, two at a time, so each is ready when you get to it. A tab shows how its check is going, then how many suggestions are left to review. Switch between tabs at any time: each file keeps its own review and amends, just as you left them. Drop more files on a review, or choose + Add files, to add tabs.
Tabs are kept only on this page. If you close a tab by mistake, choose Reopen straight away. Closing or reloading the page clears every tab, so Final Eyes asks first while you have reviews open. Each file uses its own checks.
Why does it read my file three times?
Each read is independent, so a mistake one read misses, another often catches. Then every suggestion is checked once more before you see it, which keeps false alarms down. Suggestions found by more than one read are marked so you know they’re solid.
What can’t it check?
Text that’s been turned into shapes (outlined type) in a PDF, and words in images that are too small or stylised to read. Final Eyes tells you when a page couldn’t be checked, so nothing is missed silently.
Why didn’t it flag a mistake I can see?
Final Eyes is a safety net, not a guarantee. It may miss a mistake that’s also a real word (“form” for “from”), wrong facts, names or prices, and text that’s very small, stylised or turned into shapes. If a page couldn’t be read, the result says so.
Why did it flag something that’s right?
Usually a name, a brand spelling or a deliberate style choice. (We know the missing “e” in your product name is on purpose. Final Eyes is just checking.) Choose Not an error to keep your words. It also tells us, as a count only, that a suggestion was wrong, which helps us improve. Your text isn’t sent with it.
How do I export a PDF that checks well?
Export from your design app with live text, not outlined type (in InDesign, don’t choose “Create Outlines”; in Illustrator, keep type as type). A PDF where you can select the words with your cursor checks best. For a flattened file, a scan or a photo, drop it as an image instead.
How do I send amends to my designer?
After reviewing, choose Output amends for designer. You get numbered amends (A1, A2…) as a marked-up proof, a spreadsheet and plain text for email.
For a Word file, you can also choose Copy or download > Download Word file with tracked changes. You get your own file back with each suggestion as a tracked change, so it can be accepted or rejected in Word with the formatting kept. A suggestion that crosses formatting or a line break is left for you to make by hand.
How do I check the amends were made?
When the revised file comes back, open Output amends for designer again and choose Check the revised file. Each amend is marked Done, Not done, or Check by eye (when the text around it changed, or it’s in artwork). It works with PDFs, Word and text files, and the file is read on your device. You can then proofread the revised file too.
Can I suggest a feature?
Yes, please. Go to Ideas, suggest a feature in a line or two, and vote for the ideas you want most. We read every one, and mark each as considering, planned, being built or done. You need to be signed in to suggest or vote. Please don’t paste anything from your files into an idea.
Your account
Do you keep my files?
No. Your file is read in your browser and sent to our AI service only to check it. Final Eyes doesn’t save the file, its text or the suggestions. We keep only details about each check (when it ran, who ran it, its size and how many suggestions it made), your account and team, and your plan.
Is it safe for confidential files?
Final Eyes doesn’t save your file, its text or the suggestions, and the AI service we use doesn’t train on it. If your organisation has rules about AI services, check them first. How we handle files.
How do I invite my team?
Select your team’s name at the top right, then Manage, then Members, then Invite. Owners and admins can invite and remove people.
What’s the difference between owner, admin and member?
Members run checks. Admins can also invite and remove people and change the plan. The owner is the person who created the team.
Plans and billing
What is a “check”?
One file, or one part of a long file. A part is up to about 8 pages (20,000 characters). A poster is one check; a 20-page report is three.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. You get one free proof without an account. When you create an account, your team gets a free trial: 5 checks over 14 days, with no card needed. Every feature is included. After that, choose a plan on Plans and usage.
How do I change plan, update my card or cancel?
Open Plans and usage at the top right. Owners and admins can switch plans there, choose Manage billing to update the card or download invoices, or choose Cancel plan. Cancelling keeps your plan until the end of the period you’ve paid for, and you can change your mind until then. Monthly plans can also be paused for up to three months instead.
Do you charge VAT or sales tax?
Prices are shown before tax. Paddle, our payment provider, adds VAT, GST or sales tax at checkout where it applies, and sends invoices by email.
Which currency will I pay in?
Prices are in US dollars, or in pounds, euros, Australian dollars or Canadian dollars if you’re in the UK, the eurozone, Australia or Canada. Elsewhere, Paddle’s checkout shows the dollar price converted into your currency where it can.
